Tips for Successful Central Location Tests (CLTs)

We recently conducted a large-scale taste test at our Baltimore research facility that required some significant thought and preparation to ensure a successful project. It certainly paid off, as we efficiently maneuvered over 300 participants in and out of our facility in just a few hours. We wanted to share some ways we made this a successful project for our client.

Accurate recruiting and extensive confirmations: Recruiting large numbers requires having an experienced and knowledgeable staff to ensure quality participants. With other studies, it may be possible to replace someone if there is a cancellation, however, with this large of a study that becomes more difficult. We went to great lengths to confirm respondents multiple times through several communication channels and put an emphasis on being as clear about the expectations as possible. We believe this is critical for improving show rates and making the in-facility process run smoothly.

Organization and preparation: Organization is extremely critical when conducting CLTs, especially of this size. Prior to the study, each team member was given specific responsibilities. Once the roles were assigned, a rehearsal was conducted to make sure everybody was prepared. Scripting scenarios is a key element to executing well on the day of the study.

Participant Identification: With the abundant quantity of participants, it was necessary to provide a pleasant and seamless experience. We developed a unique numbering system that allowed us to track and easily identify our 300+ participants, their payment, and their seating assignments as well as accurately track quotas and record data.

We were proud to make our client happy and look forward to creating an environment for research to thrive in our next large CLT!
