survey with Marylanders to explore gambling behaviors
and to gather opinions about gambling in Maryland
Our gambling survey concluded that:
The majority (66%) of the interviewees were
positive about gambling in Maryland.
"If Marylanders drive out of state and gamble
why not keep the money in house so we can benefit."
"More revenue, more jobs."
"I hate seeing the revenue going to another
state so close."
The majority of the individuals in our sample
gamble outside Maryland at least
occasionally. Atlantic City emerged
to be the most popular gambling destination, closely
followed by Delaware Park and Dover Downs.
The most popular form of gambling among our
sample is the lottery (33%), and
it is also the most frequented form of
gambling being played by most gamblers weekly (15%.)
Slots are played by 22% of our interviewees at least
occasionally. Participants also engage in horse betting
(18%) and sports betting. (13%)
